Some Seniors Get HPV Too
According to a new study from FAIR Health, those aged 65 and older were the group with the most significant increase (23.8%) in sexually transmitted disease (STD) diagnoses from 2020-2023.
Among the other FAIR Health findings, people 65 and older had the most significant increase (32.2%) in human papillomavirus (HPV) diagnoses.
Furthermore, 21.9% of HPV cases occurred among patients aged 55 to 64.
However, Fair Health's data did not disclose if these HPV cases were in adults who had been vaccinated, when they were vaccinated, or were unvaccinated.
Vaccination Can Reduce Gonorrhea Cases
The Journal of Infection recently published insights on how vaccination can reduce the incidence of gonorrhea, a common sexually transmitted disease. Gonorrhea is one of the fastest-growing diagnoses by percent change (16.8%).
This new study's findings indicate that MenB vaccines may offer moderate protection against gonococcal infections.
Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya Co-Infections Reported
At least two Zika patients have reported co-infection of chikungunya and dengue in Pune, India. The Times of India reported on July 5, 2024, that an official from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) told the media that Pune City is a hotspot for vector-borne diseases.

GSK plc and Medicines for Malaria Venture today announced that the first single-dose of tafenoquine, co-administered with chloroquine for a radical cure, for the prevention of relapse of Plasmodium vivax (P. vivax) malaria, has now been launched in Thailand and Brazil.
